Biography
Ajahn Thaniya was born in 1960 in New Zealand's King
Country. Having left there to further her studies, she reconnected with
an early faith in meditation and the Buddha. For a number of years she
practiced with a meditation group closely affiliated with Bodhinyanarama
Monastery. Though married, in the process of establishing a
small-holding and pursuing her interest in naturopathy and art, nibbida
and the strong pull of the Holy Life drew her to leave. She travelled to
Thailand to pay respects to Luang Por Chah and, out of gratitude for his
teachings, to find a place within one of his monasteries to practice. In
1990, after a pilgrimage to the Holy Places in India, she went to
England to join the community there. She trains at Cittaviveka Monastery
- where she is the senior nun.
